What Family Dentistry Looks Like
When your smile is in good health, the only time you have to visit the dentist is for a routine dental checkup and cleaning. On average, we advise attending at least one appointment every six months, although some patients might require more frequent visits. If we detect an issue during your examination, such as tooth decay or gum disease, then we’ll consult with you to build an effective treatment plan.
Preventive dentistry is, as the name suggests, the science of preventing issues from developing around your teeth and gums. Brushing and flossing are your own personal preventive dentistry measures, and dental checkups are our method of offering more comprehensive tooth cleanings and preventive care. The goal is to avoid the need for restorative treatment by stopping dental issues from forming in the first place.
Restorative dentistry describes the use of dental materials to restore your teeth and/or gums that have been infected or damaged. For instance, tooth decay (the cause of cavities, and the most widespread chronic health issue) can be addressed by cleaning the cavity and restoring it with a dental filling, or with root canal therapy.
Cosmetic dentistry is the art of improving a smile’s appearance, and like restorative dentistry, the services are largely case-specific. If your teeth are stained, discolored, chipped, crooked, slightly misshapen, oddly-spaced, have pitted/spotted enamel, or if one or more teeth are missing, then we can prescribe an appropriate treatment to revitalize your smile’s beauty.
As their teeth and jawbones are still developing, children often require age-specific dental services. As a family dentist, Dr. Sayyah has ample experience providing quality children’s dentistry services. From orthodontics (for straighter teeth), to fluoride treatments and dental sealants (for better protection against tooth decay), we can help you ensure that your child enjoys a heathy, beautiful smile for life. If necessary, we can also perform restorative procedures on children’s teeth using advanced, minimally-invasive techniques.
Apart from our welcoming atmosphere and caring, compassionate staff, we can also help patients relax through our gentle sedation dentistry options. For mild sedation, we may recommend nitrous oxide, which is inhaled and produces a slightly euphoric feeling that dissipates as soon as the mask is removed from your nose. For patients who are especially anxious, or are undergoing more extensive treatment, we might recommend oral sedation, which involves an oral sedative that is taken in pill form before your procedure.
